Alta Releases 2018 Redshift MXR E-Bike
New motocrosser from San Francisco
Alta Motors, the Silicon Valley-based high-performance electric motorcycle company, has released its newest-generation motocross model, the 2018 Redshift MXR. The new flagship bike features powertrain and battery enhancements, upgraded suspension, and reduced weight.
According to Alta, the MXR produces 50 hp and 147 pound-feet of torque at the countershaft, compared to the 2017 Redshift MX's 40 hp and 120 pound-feet. A key component to producing more power with the MXR is the new 5.8-kWh R-Pack, which has new cell chemistry designed to provide improved performance at lower operating temperatures.
Suspension-wise, the MXR is spec'd with a WP AER 48 fork, whereas the '17 Redshift MX used a WP 4CS unit. In the chassis department, Alta claims to have dropped 8 pounds over the '17 Redshift MX, which brings the MXR in at a claimed 259 pounds. Other chassis changes include redesigned footpegs and Dunlop Geomax MX3S tires. The MXR retails for $11,995 with two charger options—the new Rapid Charger for $799, or the Standard for $499.
"We've updated and enhanced well over 20 percent of the parts on the Redshift, demonstrating Alta's commitment to leading the development of electric motorcycles and producing the best motorcycle in the world," said Derek Dorresteyn, Alta's chief technical officer. "The 2018 MXR's increased performance, better control, and lower mass all add up to more fun on the track or trail. When coupled with Alta's revolutionary adjustable throttle mapping systems, the MXR delivers an unmatched capability to our riders."
We'll be doing a first ride on the new MXR in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for more about Alta's new flagship motocrosser's performance on the track.
